Welcome to Jersey

Jersey is an unusual part of the British Isles. We have our own Government, we make our own laws and we have our own money. We are not part of the European Union.

Because of our special links with Britain - we are a personal possession of the Monarch despite  being only 15 miles from France - Jersey has a unique history and constitution.

Jersey was the last Channel Island to be created when the waters, that we now call the English Channel, rose and cut the island off from mainland France; because of this, it is home to many rare species of flora and fauna that are only found on the island.

A high standard of living, and a population that is a diverse mix of races and cultures, makes Jersey a place that is vibrant and cosmopolitan. Today, you're as likely to meet the ancestor of a Huguenot refugee running a fish restaurant, as you are to meet the great-grand daughter of a Breton farm worker working in IT.

Great for Walking

Jersey offers a wide variety of possibilities in a small area. In a morning you could explore some of St.Helier, the capital, do some beach walking and even see a little of the countryside.

Jersey has fifty miles of dramatic coastline; smooth sandy beaches, secluded rocky coves and miles of well maintained cliff paths.

Around every headland is another breath-taking panorama.

Jersey is just as tempting inland. The island is divided by five valleys, most of these are wooded, and have footpaths running beside the valley stream.

The countryside is criss-crossed by a web of tranquil lanes, many of these are Jersey's unique speed-restricted Green Lanes, these provide an ideal way to relax and soak up the island's character.
